Patience

It’s always something I’ve had very little of, but I’ve never been able to figure out if having so little is a good thing or a bad thing.

In the past two weeks I’ve made a few significant strides toward some big life changes. Unfortunately, each of those strides comes with a 4-6 week waiting period that is almost certainly designed to make me crazy.

I know good things come to those who wait, but a month and a half is pretty extreme if you ask me.

A Close Shave

There comes a time when all good things must come to an end.

I’ve been leading the business-casual mohawk scene for years now, but I’ve determined it’s time I hang it up for a new look. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about individuality and freedom of expression, but I think it’s something that encompasses more than outward appearance.

On the bright side, I can look forward to less product, cleaner showers, and nights where I can toss an turn as I please.

Getting Tested

There’s really nothing like a standardized test to make you want to slam your head through a wall.

I’m not one of those nervous test takers, I’ve always considered multiple-choice tests to be somewhat of a joke. The correct answers are given to everyone, it’s just a matter of flushing them out.

Unfortunately, the awkardly long period of time at the beginning of a test for people to fill out their vital information on the scantron is something that has always driven me insane. Maybe I fill out my form too quickly. Maybe I’m reckless with my #2 pencil. For whatever reason, this time has always made me extremely impatient.

Keyboards down, it’s time to go get tested.

And Many More

Happy birthday to me.

I’m 23, own a home, a car, a bachelor’s degree and nearly a master’s degree; Somehow I feel like this should all be a little more exciting.

In any case, I’m having Funfetti cake for breakfast.

Hello sugar rush.

Contagious Optimism

Something about today’s social environment makes it difficult to exude outright confidence and optimism. It seems like so many people have had all of their expectations skewed or obliterated that it’s almost natural to treat every new idea with a dose of skepticism.

You can feel free to be skeptical of my crazy ideas, but I met a lot of interesting people last night who are ready to give them a shot. They might be dead ends, but anything is worth a try.

It’s going to be a busy day in the laboratory and an even busier night at the computer formulating a business plan.

I’m ready; this is going to be good.

If you’re feeling adventurous today, try and convince a stranger you’re having the best day of your life. It’s not nearly as difficult as it sounds, and, worst case, their day gets a little brighter over the thought they’ve just met a complete wackjob.

Denied

So my funding application to Kickstarter.com for one of my business ideas was just turned down and I think it probably had something to do with it either being:

A: Not organic enough
B: Alcohol related
C: Not celebrity endorsed

I’m not going to let it discourage me though; it’s just a small bump in the road, and something will happen if it’s meant to. In the meantime, if anyone would like to make a personal order of ice cream, I’d be happy to deliver at cost in exchange for positive publicity.

Any takers? It’s delicious, and even if you don’t like it, it can get you drunk.

Life Goals

There’s something about having a bachelor’s degree that makes life a lot more intimidating.

While you’re earning it, it seems like anything is possible because you’re a driven young person preparing to do something great. Once you have it, however, it’s a totally different world. Suddenly student loans, work, bills, payments, and obligations that were trivial before become critical, and doing that great thing becomes something that can only be worked on in your spare time. I wonder at what point between putting on the robe and turning the tassel this big transition happens.

I submitted plans to open a business this morning, just one of a few I’d like to do in the near future. Who knows if anything will come from this proposal, but I’m hopeful.

Sometimes I wish I had a bigger attention span, more follow through, or less ideas; one of the three is starting to really give me a headache.

Apologies

I swear the posting absence has not been my fault. I spoke with my hosting service today and they assured me my inability to upload was a “hiccup” in their system and it should all now be resolved.

It won’t happen again.

Have you ever noticed how much longer the day seems when you can’t focus on anything? It’s one of those days where I’ve sat at my desk tabbing through site after site looking for something that will hold my attention. It’s a rough life, I know.

Anyone interested in photography with some extra cash to spend, should take a look at Photojojo.com, particularly their online store. These people have compiled so much random photography gear that it’s almost hard to believe.

If you get there and feel overly compelled to buy the White Balance Lens Cap but don’t know what size your lens would take, mine requires the 77mm variety and I wouldn’t mind having one.

My birthday is rapidly approaching, after all.

Summer Reading

Finals couldn’t have ended soon enough. No more paper, no more discussion postings, and no more emergency management until the last week of July.

I suppose it’s time to power through all of the books I’ve collected over the past semester and haven’t been able to read.

When I was a kid I used to participate in the Columbus Metropolitan Library Summer Reading Club. There was something extremely exciting about being rewarded for reading during the summer, even though the prizes were only stickers, coupon books, and tote bags.

I noticed they’re raffling a bike this year; maybe I should sign up and try to get something out of my fancy graduate coursework?

Amateur Blogger

Does anybody remember Xanga?

I’d really like to know what happened to it. Don’t get me wrong, it still exists, but it’s definitely not what it used to be.

Countless teens struggling through their upper middle class existences. Classes. Work. Relationships. Acne. All of these profound things readily available for the general public to access.

I never deleted my username and password, so if GoDaddy keeps giving me trouble with hosting, I’m going to head up the Xanga resurgence.

You heard it here first.
